After the great feedback from our audience of Doing Business in China Report Launch seminar” in Guangzhou which was held on this Tuesday (21st May), AustCham South China is proud to present the “Doing Business in China Report Launch Seminar” in Shenzhen on 12th June at Brisbane Shenzhen Innovation Hub.

 ABOUT THE REPORT 

Based on the survey of AustCham and ACBC members conducted in the third quarter of 2018, the report is critical in assisting Australian companies navigate the opportunities and challenges that come with doing business in China. The 2019 report highlights the advantages for Australian business under the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement and its impact on bilateral trade while also reflecting on some of the difficulties commonly encountered.

The 2019 Doing Business in China Report outlines several key findings including current investment trends and the China business climate as well as recent economic and policy developments impacting bilateral relations.

The seminar provides important insights for Australian companies operating in South China and seeks to leave its participants with a deeper understanding of developments in the Chinese economy. Panelists 


William Lin

Senior Commercial Representative, Austrade Shenzhen

Before taking up the Austrade Senior Commercial Representative (Shenzhen) position, William was the Investment Director at Austrade/Australian Embassy Commercial Section in Beijing, responsible for attracting and facilitating Chinese outbound investments going to Australia.

William joined Austrade/Australian Consulate-General (Hong Kong and Macau) in December 1996, he has been fully engaged with Australian export promotion then investment facilitation since; William has also undertaken various Austrade industry team leadership roles at post and North East Asia regional level in the past 15 years. In 2009, William was assigned to investment facilitation role to attract productive Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) from Greater China to Australia.

Before joining Austrade, William was a consultant for Australian and European large corporate clients on investment and trade projects in both Hong Kong and Mainland China.

William was born in Guangzhou, where he obtained Architectural Engineering qualification, he then completed Bachelor Degree of Business at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. William is a Fellow Member of CPA Australia (FCPA).

 

Greg Smith

Vice President Asia Pacific of International School Service (ISS)

Head of Shekou International School (SIS)

Shekou International School (SIS) welcomed Greg Smith as the Head of School at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year.

Greg has dedicated his life to educating young people. After teaching roles in his native Australia across all of the primary and secondary school grade levels, Greg moved into school administration as a principal, school advisor and superintendent. Over the past ten years, he assumed leadership roles in Beijing, where he was an Elementary Principal and K-12 Curriculum Director, and then in Laos, where he was the Director of the Vientiane International School.

Embracing technology as a great accelerator of learning and productivity, Greg has spent the past two years building a school services company harnessing the power of on-line teacher support and recruitment for international schools. Greg views SIS as a great match for his own passion for innovation in education because of the school’s commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching and learning.

Frances Wen 

Country Manager  – Greater China, Pharmcare Laboratories Pty Ltd

Frances Wen, is currently heading the Greater China team of Pharmacare, one of the leading Australian health and fitness company. Pharmacare’s business in China has achieved great progress and outcome via E-commerce and retail channels in the market under the leadership of Frances in the past years. Frances has more than 15 years’ experience in sales and marketing across China and Australia. She had previously worked in Nestle and Wrigley.

 

Samson Ho

Business Director at Hays Shenzhen 

Samson has close to a decade of recruitment and management experience, with a proven track record in building high-performing teams. Previously, he was the Business Director of Hays Hong Kong and, subsequently, he was chosen to lead the Hays Shenzhen office. Currently, Samson leads the overall management of the Hays Shenzhen operations.

Samson primarily specialises in recruitment across operations management, sales and marketing and human resources. He is particularly skilled at helping small and medium-sized enterprises to develop their business by consistently recommending the right talent to suit their needs. In addition, Samson has helped many local enterprises to expand internationally; and vice versa, has helped foreign companies to find top quality talent to adapt the business to the local culture.

Founding International Principal at Meisha Academy by Haileybury

Board Director of AustCham South China 

Alex has been an educator for almost 20 years. Over half of that time has been spent working outside his native Australia in the UK and the Middle East, including working for international schools or schools that have an ‘international footprint’. His current role is as Founding International Principal of Meisha Academy by Haileybury, in Guangzhou. It is a joint venture school between Haileybury Australia – one of the most academically successful private schools in Australia in recent years – and Vanke Real Estate – a construction giant located in the south of China and comprising over 30000 employees. The school  is an inner city Year 9-12 boarding school that will deliver the VCE Curriculum. The school aims to amalgamate the best of Chinese and Western pedagogical practices.
